FAQ: Data Cloud In Sandbox Beta, what you need to know
Data Cloud will soon be supported in sandbox environments as an open beta. A sandbox is a copy of your Salesforce org that you can use for development, testing, and training, without compromising the data and applications in your production org. To help you prepare, here’s a list of frequently asked questions.
Salesforce Sandbox is essentially a replica of your production environment. It allows you to develop, test, and train without affecting your live data or operations.
With this beta when you create or refresh a sandbox org, all Data Cloud metadata and configurations from the production org are replicated in the sandbox org. You can make changes to your existing Data Cloud configurations or build new implementations. All changes will be contained within the sandbox org and its Data Cloud instance. Migrating Data Cloud customizations or changes from a sandbox to production isn’t supported right away.
Data Cloud configurations from the production environment are replicated in the sandbox org, but data and authentication information isn’t replicated. After you create the sandbox, you see the Data Cloud connections. However, you must configure the connections and provide the authentication information ingest data into the Data Cloud sandbox.
Any customers with Data Cloud credit-based SKUs are eligible.
If you’re an eligible customer, you see the ability to opt into the beta in Data Cloud Feature Manager after the beta goes live.
The Data Cloud sandbox is part of the Salesforce Platform sandbox functionality. A sandbox is an independent instance from the production environment. Previously, Data Cloud wasn’t supported and was hidden in sandboxes. With this beta, Data Cloud works as part of the sandboxes you can create today.
Data Cloud is supported in all sandbox types: Developer, Developer Pro, Partial Copy, and Full Copy.
No, you must refresh existing sandboxes to get Data Cloud working in Sandbox. After opting in to the beta, newly created sandboxes will automatically get Data Cloud in Sandbox.
All Data Cloud features will be functional in the sandbox. Not all Data Cloud features are replicated from production to sandbox. But any features that aren’t replicated to the sandbox can be created in the sandbox after you enable Data Cloud.
After you create a new sandbox, navigate to Data Cloud Setup and click Get Started to provision Data Cloud in the sandbox. Your configurations from the production org are automatically replicated to the sandbox org. After you provision Data Cloud in sandbox, navigate to Data Cloud Setup and click Connectors to re-authenticate the connections and bring data in.
Data Cloud customers now have the ability to deploy changes from sandbox to production through Data Kit and Change Sets, with CLI and DevOps Center support coming soon!
